Acne. I don’t think I need to define this hideous word. As it is the most common skin issue every person faces. Some less, some more. But at some point every person does. Acne is most common between the age group of 16-25. However, some of us experience acne even after the age of 25. Yes, it is stubborn. Ughhhh!
I got the idea for this blog post from my baby Heena!
Let’s just understand a few things about acne:
1. Acne is a serious skin disease.
2. It happens due to the clogging of hair folicicles. We have little pores on our skin. Sometimes they get clogged/blocked with dirt, oil, heavy makeup, etc. This clogging then causes pimples on our skin.
3. The most common causes of acne are genetics, diet, using oil-based makeup, dead skin-cells, menstrual cycle, hot & humid climate, anxiety & stress, squeezing pimples.
4. Although it is a serious issue, it is not something that cannot be solved!
So here are some natural ingredients that’ll work wonders for your acne-prone skin!
Apple Cider Vinegar : Apple Cider vinegar is an all natural astringent. It kills bacteria, removes excess oil and makeup from our skin & dissolves dead skin cells. Dilute 1 part apple cider vinegar with 3 parts water. Soak a cotton ball in this mixture and dab it onto your skin. This’ll also help in restoring the pH balance of your skin.
Plain Yogurt: Yogurt is rich in Vitamins & Lactic acid. Lactic acid is a natural antibiotic, which works as an exfoliator & removes the dead skin cell from your skin. You can just apply plain yogurt to your skin. Or grind some Oatmeal and mix it with plain yogurt. Leave this mixture on for 30 minutes and gently scrub your face and wash it off. This’ll calm your skin & in reducing the redness caused from acne. Or you can mix some honey with the yogurt too.
Tea tree oil: Tea tree oil has many anti-septic & antimicrobial properties that kills the acne causing bacteria. When diluted & applied on the affected area, it helps combat the ance that lives inside the hair folicicles. Dilute a few drops of tea tree oil with a few drops of water or coconut oil and apply it on your acne. It’ll start reducing from the very first use. DO NOT consume it! Always dilute it before applying on the skin.
Aloe Vera: Aloe Vera is a magical ingredient! It contains antiseptic & anti-inflammatory properties that helps in fighting the bacteria trapped inside our clogged pores. It has calming properties that’ll reduce the redness caused by acne. You can directly apply the gel on your face or mix it with some other ingredients I’ve mentioned here.
Green tea: Green tea has countless amazing health benefits from weight loss to fighting cancer & diabetes. But it also has some amazing benefits for skin. Drink a cup of green tea daily. 2 ways you can apply it on your face- Make the tea as you normally do. Then, pour the tea into an ice cube tray and freeze it. Use this green tea ice cube on your affected area every night. Or take a freshly used tea bag and apply the wet leaves on your face. Leave it on your skin and scrub it off after 15 minutes. Freeze a fresh cube daily.
Activated Charcoal: Lately there has been a flood of beauty products containing charcoal as it is known to suck out all the dirt, oil and grime from your pores leaving behind a clean & acne-free skin. You can mix a teaspoon of charcoal with 2 tsp of honey and keep it on your face for 20 minutes & wash off. Or you can make a peel-off mask with 2 tsp charcoal, 1tbsp of unflavoured gelatine and a tbsp of hot milk. Peel it off after 30 minutes starting from your chin towards forehead.
Neem: Neem is an antiseptic and antibacterial ingredient that is found in many commercial acne products. I swear by this product for acne!! In this whole article Neem is my most used and most effective way to get rid of pimples. Just grind some neem leaves with a little bit of water. Put this paste on your face for 30 minutes. Or squeeze out all the juice from the grinded paste and apply it with a cotton ball on you acne and leave it on overnight. If you have a severe case of acne then do this every alternate day and you’ll see amazing results.
Some ways you can combine these ingredients:
1. You can mix tea tree oil with all the ingredients mentioned above except Apple cider vinegar as you’re using it as a toner to reap the maximum benefits. Just add a few drops of the tea tree oil to the recipes mentioned.
2. Aloe Vera and Yogurt works great together.
3. Activated charcoal and Neem works great with tea tree oil.
