Procedure for making the DIY face mask for brighter skin tone:

What you’ll need:

1 tsp Gram flour/Besan

1 tsp Almond meal (Almonds crushed in the grinder to a fine powder)

1 tsp Fullers earth/Multani mitti

1 tsp Honey

1/2 tsp Turmeric powder

8-10 strands of Saffron (Soaked in a tsp of milk for 20 minutes)

Directions:
  • The First step while making this mask should always be soaking the Saffron in the milk for 20 minutes or longer (the longer Saffron stays in milk, the more beneficial and effective it will be). You can even soak it overnight. I always forget to soak the Saffron prior to using and sometimes end up using dry Saffron strands. But using your Saffron strands dry, in my opinion, is a waste as you’re not extracting all the goodness. By soaking the Saffron, you give it time to release all the colour & goodness.
  • Grind a few Almonds. 3-4 Almonds are enough for one use. I take a handful of Almonds and grind them at once and store the Almond meal/powder in an airtight container. This just saves my time of grinding the Almonds every time I make this mask.
  • Take the Gram flour, Almond meal, Fuller’s earth and Turmeric powder in a clean bowl and mix well.
  • Add Honey and Saffron milk in this powder mixture and mix thoroughly.
  • If the mixture is too thick, add some milk little by little to make it more spreadable. You can also add Rose water instead of milk to mix the face mask until a semi-thick & manageable paste is formed.
  • Apply this DIy face mask for brighter skin tone on a cleansed face and keep it on for 20 minutes.
  • Do not just wash it off after 20 minutes. Wet your hands with some Milk or Rosewater and start massaging your face in circular motions and keep massaging for 5-10 minutes. It will give your skin an exfoliating feeling because of the ground Almonds in it. This step is really important as it gets rid of all the dead skin on your face.
  • After you’ve massaged your face thoroughly, wash the remaining mask off your face.
  • Pat dry and moisturize with your regular moisturizer.

Note:

  • Keep a steady hand with the amount of Turmeric you use. Too much Turmeric can cause irritation or leave a yellowish tint on your face.
  • Massage any carrier oil on your face and wipe off with a cotton pad if you used too much Turmeric and it caused a yellow tint. This will get rid of the colour.
  • You have to make this face mask for Brighter Skin tone fresh every time you want to use it. But if you feel lazy doing this much work every time, what you can do is, mix all the dry/powder ingredients (Gram flour, Fullers earth, Almond powder and Turmeric) in equal quantities and keep this dry mixture in an airtight container. Whenever you want to use this mask, take a tbsp of the dry mixture in a bowl, pour Honey and Saffron milk and you’re good to go!

    1. Yes, definitely. Essential oils are always helpful & effective. Some of the essential oils you can use in this recipe are Tea tree & Sandalwood or any other essentials oil suitable for your skin type.

  2. Thanks for sharing, I like looking good but do not always have the cash to splash out on skin care products, it`s good to know that even with DIY, one can get that lovely face.
