Skin & Hair treatments for post Holi effects

Happy Holi everyone! I hope you all had a safe and eco-friendly Holi. But most of all I hope you enjoyed this festival of colours!  Though playing with colours in Holi is the most enjoyable experience, it can be really daunting and stressful for your skin and hair, not to mention the environment as well. The quality of the colours these days and the chemicals mixed in them are really really harmful and can have very severe effects.

Skin & Hair treatments for post Holi effects

Some harmful effects of powder colours on our skin and hair:
  • These colors can clog our pores and result in stressed skin which can eventually lead our skin to breakout.
  • They can dry up the skin a lot.
  • Sometimes, these colors, if not removed fast can stain our skin as well as hair.
  • Hair can become dry for as long as a month or two.

I certainly know you have enjoyed playing with colors, but as soon as you came home and saw the condition of your hair and skin, you would have realized you need some help :D. So, I thought of sharing with you guys some Skin & Hair treatments for post Holi effects you can do at home to get rid of all the damage done!

Skin Treatments:

Deep cleansing face cleanser:

1 tbsp Coconut oil
1 tbsp Honey

This should be your first step to clean your skin as soon as you step into your house and are ready to get all the gunk off your face.
Mix the two ingredients mentioned above in a clean bowl.
Now apply this mixture on your face and let it stay for 2 minutes and then start massaging your face in circular motion and keep doing it for 10 minutes.Then take a warm cloth (a piece of cloth dipped in warm water) and wipe your face with it.
Splash some water on your face and wash if necessary afterwards.

Pore cleansing face pack:

1 tbsp Besan/Chickpea flour
1 tbsp Multani mitti
1 tsp Neem powder
1/2 tsp Turmeric
1/2 tsp Olive oil
Rose water to make paste

Mix all the above mentioned ingredients in a bowl. Add rose water as required to make paste.
Apply this paste on cleansed face and keep it on for 20-30 minutes.
Start scrubbing this pack off your face with circular massaging motions instead of washing. This step will get rid of all the dead skin cells and will go an extra step in cleansing your skin.
After all the face is scrubbed from your face, then wash off the excess with water.
Pat dry your face.

Cooling and calming face mask:

1 tbsp Aloe Vera gel
1 tbsp Yoghurt
A drop of Peppermint essential oil

Mix all the ingredients in a clean bowl.
Apply on cleansed face and keep it on for 20 minutes.
After 20 minutes, wet your hands and massage the face mask into skin for 5 minutes.
Then wash it off and pat dry your face.

Hair treatments:

Deep cleansing hair scrub:

1 tbsp granulated Brown sugar
1 tbsp Olive oil
A few drops of Tea tree essential oil

This should be the first step in bringing your hair back in managable condition. This will deep cleanse your scalp and make the masks I mention further, deliver their full effect.

Mix all the ingredients thoroughly in a clean bowl.
Dampen your hair with some water and make sure you do this particular treatment in the shower as it xan get quite messy.
Now part you hair into sections and massage this scrub into your scalp in circular motions for just a few minutes.
When your whole head is done, shampoo as normal. If you’re not gonna use the smoothning mask mentioned ahead, then condition your hair as well.

Smoothning hair mask

1 Banana
1 Egg
1 tsp Coconut oil
1/2 tsp Vitamin E oil

Mash the banana with a fork. Make sure you mash it very well.
Take the rest of the ingredients in a bowl and whisk them vigorously.
Add the mashed banana in this mixture.
Or you can just put all the ingredients in a blender and blend for just 5-10 seconds.
Now apply this paste on wash and cleansed hair and leave it on for anywhere between 1-2 hours. Then wash off with a very mild shampoo.

After you do all or a few of the above mentioned treatments on yourself, you’ll notice instant results! But, if you have a more severe case of after holi hangover 😀 keep doing this every week and you’ll be shiny as new in a few weeks.
